Hess Jewelers will be hosting the first annual “Springboro Antique Road Fair” on Saturday May 5th from 10:00 am – 4:00pm at Hess Jewelers. Several qualified appraisers, Dennis Hess, Chuck McKinney and Gloria Phillips, will be at the event. They will be happy to look at your item and give you an honest verbal appraisal. Choose your oldest or most unusual items--examples of object to bring to an appraisal day include things that have been in the family for generations or unusual items. Bring pictures of large furniture. If the item is too large to transport easily, you can still get an informal appraisal by bringing pictures of the object. Take pictures from every angle--front, back, sides and interior details such as a drawer. Do some research first. To get the most out of our expert’s time do your own research first, and then you can ask more detail questions. Have reasonable expectations. With the popularity of such shows as the “Antiques Road show” some collectors get their hopes up. Take notes. You will receive a spoken appraisal only, so bring a notebook for jotting down information. Besides a dollar value, the appraiser can give you an overview on the history of the object. The informal verbal appraisal is meant mainly for your enlightenment. If you need a formal written appraisal (for insurance or probate) you will be able to schedule an appointment with an appraiser. Expect to pay anywhere from $100 to have a few items appraised up to $1,500 to have an entire collection appraised. So dust off your collectibles and bring them in for a fun and informative day. A $5.00 per piece fee will be required and the $5.00 will be credited towards an appraisal. |
